Photograms.
Photograms have a lot in common with the previous subject of cyanotypes. It is more or less the same as a cyanotypes except the fact that the product is in black and white instead of shades of blue. In addition the process of creating the image takes longer instead of simply putting your photo in a chemical, in the cyanotypes process, you instead put the image in numerous chemicals therefore the process takes longer to do. The result of a photogram is a shadow image. Certain parts of the picture remain dark however other parts create a thick white. Its a lovely contrast of color.

Photogram influences.Man Ray was a heavy influence on Photograms. He was an American, born in philadelphia, and he was the eldest child in a russian jewish family. With one brother and two sister. His father ran a small tailoring business and also worked in a tailoring factory. He always insisted his name was Man Ray however his nickname originally came about when his brother nicknamed him "manny" derived from his original name emmanuel. He therefore took the name manny and delivered the name Ray, he combined it with his last name to create the name Man Ray. He is also known as the first Jewish avant garde artist.
He learned basic art techniques at his boys school in Brooklyn. He would often visit the local art museum to educate himself in the arts and look at european painters with similar capabilities as an artistic approach. The second artist is Laszlo moholy-nagy. Was a Hungarian painter and photographer and a teacher at the german art school Bauhaus. He used lovely colours in his art with a warm and welcoming sense which accompanies the images. He was born in a Jewish family, he attended a school in Szeged. He was a supporter of a communist dictatorship know as the "red terror" before world war one nevertheless this group was defeated later. He studies art in Budapest. |
This is the first photogram I created, I wanted it to have a basic feel to it so I can create a simple but effective image. I especially like the glowing magnifying glass which i place to the right of the image, next to the shell. I am fond of the contrast between the handle of the magnifying glass and the rim of the lens, the lens glows in such a lovely way. However it could have been improved with more objects on the paper.

The second image I made has a more complicated feel today. In addition to the objects I also used my hand to make the image more unique. I bombarded the image with objects, so I could improve on the second image. I prefer my first image because it is simple although very effective.
